Juror in Clancy Mistrial Defends Evidence-Backed Stance
Attorney Edward Paltzik, representing the sole holdout juror in Lindsay Clancy’s murder trial, has countered allegations that his client failed to adhere to legal standards. Speaking with Fox News host Kayleigh McEnany, Paltzik emphasized that juror Michael P. Desronvil had “zero doubt” regarding his decision.
Juror’s Confidence in Verdict
During a segment previewed for airing on “Fox & Friends,” McEnany questioned Paltzik about whether Desronvil ever experienced reasonable doubt, following a note from the jury foreperson to the judge that accused him of neglecting the law concerning reasonable doubt.
“Michael had zero doubt,” Paltzik stated confidently.
McEnany followed up, asking, “Zero doubt. No doubt. And he had evidence to back up his position?”
“A lot of evidence. A mountain of evidence,” Paltzik replied.
Background of the Case
Desronvil stood as the only juror opposing a verdict after seven days of deliberation in Clancy’s trial. While eleven jurors were inclined to find the former labor and delivery nurse not criminally responsible for the deaths of her three children, Desronvil maintained his stance for a conviction. Consequently, Judge William Sullivan declared a mistrial on September 4.
In January 2023, Clancy admitted to killing her children—5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 8-month-old Callan—at their home in Duxbury, Massachusetts. Her defense team argued that she was not criminally responsible due to postpartum psychosis, while prosecutors contended that Clancy was aware of her actions and had premeditated the murders.
Future Proceedings
Desronvil expressed his belief that the physical evidence and witness testimonies indicated Clancy understood her actions. As of now, prosecutors have not disclosed their plans regarding a retrial. Clancy is scheduled to appear in court again on September 29.
