American Idol Confirms Judges for 2027 Season 25

American Idol Announces Returning Judges for 2027

ABC has officially confirmed the lineup for Season 25 of American Idol, set to air in 2027. Ryan Seacrest will continue his role as host for the 25th consecutive season, while judges Lionel Richie, Luke Bryan, and Carrie Underwood will also return.

This announcement comes after the network revealed on July 29 that the beloved talent competition would be back for its milestone season.

Excitement from the Judges

During his “Luke & Friends” concert at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena, Bryan expressed his surprise at keeping the news under wraps, stating, “We’re coming back for the 25th season of ‘American Idol’!” Underwood joined him on stage to confirm Seacrest’s involvement, while Richie made a virtual appearance due to health concerns.

Richie, 77, had undergone a heart procedure to address atrial fibrillation, which led to the cancellation of three of his concerts with Earth, Wind & Fire over the summer. His representative confirmed the procedure on September 22.

A Milestone Season

This marks the 10th season for both Richie and Bryan, who joined the show in 2018 when it transitioned from Fox to ABC. Underwood joined the panel in 2025 following Katy Perry’s exit.

Reflecting on their journey, Bryan remarked to USA TODAY, “10’s a good, nice, round number. We sit down to talk it out every year. We know the show grew [viewership]. … Socials were amazing. And that’s something that we can be proud of as being a judge on the show.”

Underwood shared her thoughts on returning for a second season, saying, “It’s been wonderful. I feel like my first season, I was very much trying to find my place and figure out my footing as a judge. This season was a lot more fun because I was a lot more comfortable.”

Production Moves to Georgia

In a significant change, Season 25 will be filmed in Georgia, moving from its long-time home at the Red Studios Hollywood lot in Los Angeles. This shift was confirmed by Fremantle, the production company, although ABC has yet to provide a reason for the relocation.

Looking Back at Season 24

The previous season concluded on May 11, with Hannah Harper winning a $250,000 prize and a recording contract. Harper expressed her gratitude for her family’s sacrifices, saying, “I’m a puddle right now. All the sacrifices have been made [by my family] to make this happen… I just feel like my village is growing now.” She made history as the first female country artist to win since Underwood in 2005.

As anticipation builds for the upcoming season, fans can expect episodes to stream on Disney+ and Hulu the day after airing, with live episodes also available on Disney+.
