Dead City Season 4 Update: Hopeful News for Fans

Encouraging News for Dead City Fans
The Walking Dead franchise head, Scott M. Gimple, has delivered the most promising update regarding the future of Dead City Season 4, offering fans a glimmer of hope for the spin-off’s continuation.
Renewal Prospects Look Bright
During an exclusive interview with The Direct at MultiCon 2026, Gimple expressed optimism about the chances of Dead City being renewed for a fourth season. He stated, “I would hope for everyone to hold out hope, because it’s performing well in the numbers, and people are digging it. So, I think it’s got a good shot at it, but it is a different time.”
Critical Acclaim for Season 3
Dead City Season 3 has achieved a remarkable 100% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, marking the highest rating for the series to date. In comparison, Season 1 received an 80% score, while Season 2 dropped to 56%. The latest season concluded in September after an eight-week run on AMC and AMC+, with its finale hinting at potential storylines expanding beyond Manhattan into other boroughs of New York.
Adapting to New Metrics
Gimple also discussed how the streaming era has transformed the way shows are evaluated for longevity. He remarked, “It’s incredible. It’s unbelievable. I can’t even think… It’s just such an alien sort of moment in time. When I was showrunning ‘Walking Dead’, I could calculate, ‘Okay, if the ratings halve every year, we have three to four years left.’ That’s insane.” He added, “Now, it’s just… The metrics are not as cut-and-dried, and the economics are very different. So, we’ll see what happens. But the greater story of ‘The Walking Dead’ absolutely is going to go on.”
Franchise’s Future Plans
Gimple revealed that the franchise’s rollout strategy will be more measured going forward, stating that new spin-off seasons will be released with less “urgency and speed” than in the past. AMC had previously renewed Dead City for Season 2 just before the Season 1 finale aired and announced Season 3 a month after the second season concluded.
Upcoming Releases
Looking ahead, Daryl Dixon Season 4 is set to wrap up Norman Reedus’ European-based spin-off in early 2027. This season remains the last officially confirmed release within the franchise, although reports suggest that a new crossover show is currently in development.
